Jessica Lauren LawrenceNew York City Extreme Ironing
Extreme ironing is an extreme sport in which people take ironing boards to remote locations and iron items of clothing.
According to the Extreme Ironing Bureau, extreme ironing is "the latest danger sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt."
Some locations where such performances have taken place include a mountainside of a difficult climb, a forest,in a canoe, while skiing or snowboarding, on top of large bronze statues, in the middle of a street, underwater, in the middle of the M1 motorway, during a keirin race, whilst parachuting, and under the ice cover of a lake.
The performances can be conducted solo or by groups.
Two years ago I was introduced to this extreme sport and was quickly hooked. Since those two years I have ironed my way through 3 continents, 6 countries, and 4 states. I intentionally try and use boards from the place I am at, always requesting a personal story to go along with the adventure. Extreme Ironing for me began as a one time adventure to Stonehenge. However it has emerged as a lifestyle choice, a growing performance art, and (hopefully with support and enthusiasm from people like you) a lifelong travel project for a girl and her ironing board.
Our preferred sponsor
Everyone who wants to support a young woman on her path of making extreme ironing popular all over the world!!!
I am currently on a trip in New Zealand, desperately wanting to try ironing during a Bungee Jump.
If I find a sponsor, I would love to get that Bungee Jump financed.
